Seems odd to be talking about a finish line on the first day of the new year, huh?
Well, today marks the last day of the #RWRunStreak. The goal was to run at least one mile each day from Thanksgiving until New Years Day. I’ll admit, it wasn’t an easy challenge but I did it. I challenged a few co-workers but they basically dropped out at day 5. It’s not about winning, it’s about doing the best you can and I can say I did the best that I could for the last 37 days. For me, I needed this challenge. It’s a good feeling to start the new year our on the right foot, per se.
Here’s my proof…
Roughly 10 days were about ~1-sh miles. December 6th, I was hungover from my holiday party and December 20th, I had the stomach flu. I ran a half marathon and I traveled for work. I got up a few times at 5am to get my run in and I ran to events with friends to make sure I didn’t have an excuse. Anyway you look at it, I didn’t let anything get in my way.
This challenge taught me that I do have the will power to stick to a goal, any goal. I can do anything that I put my mind too. Some people close to me probably already knew that but it’s a good reminder for myself to recognize.
I’d like to keep this challenge – its a good one to try at the end of the year when stresses are high and food and tasty beverages are flowing so freely. Hopefully in 2016, you’ll join me for the run streak challenge.
As I start the new year, a new starting line, I’m looking forward to the challenges that 2016 has to bring…how about you? Any challenges? Run Streaks?
