A Life That’s Good

Over the winter months, I renewed my Netflix subscription so I could watch movies and TV shows while I’m in Seattle during the week. I fought it for a while because I wanted to focus my time on either reading or running but during the dark, cold, and wet winter, I got lazy.

I’ve finished three series – House of Cards, Friday Night Lights, & Nashville. I know kind of an odd mix. I started watching Friday Night Lights because I like watching football shows. I really liked the main woman and Netflix suggested I check out Nashville. What the heck – I was born in Nashville and I sort of miss living in the South – although I don’t miss it enough to move back. I was immediately hooked on the show- good acting, good music.

Recently, during the current season, they put together a concert of all the songs they had sang during the series. One of the songs was called ‘A Life That’s Good.’ I immediately downloaded and listen to it almost every day – it’s a good reminder that I have a really good life.

So one of the reason’s my life is so good is because of my mom. She’s had a really big impact on my life and how it’s turned out. This last weekend we got to celebrate her as she had a big milestone birthday. First we sent her and her husband on an Alaskan cruise the prior week. They had a blast! When they returned, we surprised them by having my brother (from Montana) and step-sister (from Memphis) fly in. It was a great surprise and they didn’t suspect a thing!

The weekend was filled with relaxing in the sun, going to brunch and just being with each other. It was amazing – and we created some great memories.

Here are the words to the song I mentioned above…to me it’s all about my family.

Sittin’ here tonight,

By the fire light,

it reminds me I already have more than I should.

I don’t need fame, no one to know my name,
At the end of the day,

Lord I pray, I have a life that’s good.

Two arms around me, heaven to ground me,

and a family that always calls me home,

Four wheels to get there, enough love to share

and a sweet sweet sweet song

Sometimes I’m hard on me,

When dreams don’t come easy,

I wanna look back and say, I did all that I could,

Yeah at the end of the day, Lord I pray,

I have a life that’s good.
