Every year, my husband and I come back to Kauai to celebrate our anniversary. Eight years ago, Friday, we were married here on the island. It’s probably one of my most favorite places to visit. It’s peaceful, it’s beautiful, and most of all it reminds me of the day that I said “I do.”
Since Kauai is 3 hours behind the west coast, it’s not uncommon to wake up well before the sun. And so I have a ritual/routine…wake up around 5, make coffee (coconut coffee with coconut creamer – I love coconut!), watch the ocean, and then when the sun barely starts to peek, I go for a run. Afterwards, we feast on fresh tuna and tropical fruits…yes for breakfast.
Yesterday started out normal but then the unthinkable happened…my husband, the non-runner, the one who says he will never, ever run, went running with me. Maybe it was the cool shoes or new shorts he had gotten that changed his mind. Either way, I was happy to have his company and that was probably my favorite #RunHappy moment ever.
Ok so we’re not running a half marathon or marathon but we did put in a respectable 3.1 miles. We took a right out of our condo and then ran pass the Spouting Horn to the end of the road. It’s the perfect way to start the morning in Kauai.
Today, I ran alone. I wanted to share the beauty of this short little run. The sun rise, didn’t disappoint. The landscape, didn’t disappoint. The chicken crossing the road, didn’t disappoint. The road…you guessed it, didn’t disappoint.
Here’s a few sights along the way. This is how I start my day in Kauai…
